Unable to import content to a new course

You may rarely encounter this issue where on attempting to import content into a new course you get this error message

And when you click on More information link see

‘ There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages.’

It would appear that this is due to a Quickmail bug and our advice to:

  1. Remove the Quickmail block from the original course where content is being copied from
  2. Import content from this course to the new one as usual
  3. Restore the Quickmail block in the original course ( you will still be able to see ‘History’ etc)
  4. Add the Quickmail block in the new course

Moodle Assignment: Students unable to submit

This is a possible bug that we are monitoring

We have had a few instances with Moodle Assignment where the due date is in the future but when students try to submit work they either see a page informing them that the assignment due date has passed or a blank screen. The actual assignments were all set up correctly too.

For now the fix is to change the group mode settings to no groups.

I get a blank page when I click on the submission inbox

There may be instances when you are unable to access the submission inbox (blank page after clicking the tab).  This can occur due to an interruption in communication between Moodle and Turnitin. It is not a common occurrence.

To restore the connection

  • either click ‘Refresh submissions’
  • or click ‘Update this Turnitin submission’ and just click save and return to course

Alternatively it may be that you have not been added as a Turnitin Tutor- Show me how to add myself ( see point 2 )

Auto subscription forum – not all participants appearing as subscribers when first set up

If you are using auto-subscription forums or change a forced or optional subscription from to an auto-subscription one you need to check that all relevant participants are subscribed from the start so that they receive emails of all posts from the start

This is a bug that will be resolved once we move to Moodle 2.6 later next year.

For now if using an auto-subscribe forum then non-subscribed users

  • do not receive emails of posts etc
  • only become subscribed users when post  something themselves

To resolve this

  1. Click on the forum in question in the relevant moodle course
  2. Scroll to Settings > Forum administration on the left hand side
  3. Click Show/edit current subscribers to check who is missing
  4. If you need to remove or add users click Edit content top right of screen ( above list of current subscribers)
  5. Select names to remove (left list) and click  > arrow or select names to add (right list) and click < arrow  ( you can also search for names under either list and use search options)
  6. Return to Settings > Forum administration on the left hand side and click how/edit current subscribers to check  current subscriptions again

Moodle: Current known bugs

Current known bugs in Moodle are:

  1. Feedback text entered in the gradebook may not appear in the student’s user report
  2. Forum: Auto subscription mode not reflecting all subscribers

  3. Moodle Assignment: Students unable to submit   (a random issue but not a bug)

  4. Unable to import content to a new course (a random issue but not a bug)

Turnitin: Current known bugs

With our current version of Turnitin, the known bugs  or on going issues to date are

  1. Some doc.x files not being accepted on submission – save file as .doc or pdf and resubmit
  2. Unable to access submission inbox – this can occur due to an interruption in communication between Moodle and Turnitin. It is not a common occurrence so NOT a bug. Click ‘Refresh submissions’  (or click ‘Update this Turnitin submission’ and just click save and return to course) and the connection should be restored.
  3. Moodle Activity log does not record successful file upload to Turnitin – this has occurred just once to two students on the same Turnitin submission area.  Turnitin showed successful (late) submission but the Moodle activity record did not record correct time or fact of submission. ULCC have said this is not a bug and could have occurred due to browsers timing out, screen freezing etc. Turnitin tried to replicate the error and established it could only have occurred because the while the students may have been looking at Turnitin page in Moodle at the same time they  / or someone on their behalf actually submitted via the Turnitin website. Please remind students they should only be using Moodle to access Turnitin as we do not support  or manage that third party website. This is an issue and NOT a bug
